This information is posted by the Board of Dental Examiners to instruct dentists who may be allowing dental auxiliary personnel to take hand and/or wrist x-rays to evaluate growing patients to cease and desist the delegation of this practice.
While dentists are exempt from having to obtain a radiologic license to take such x-rays, dental auxiliary are exempt only from those x-rays confined to the area comprising the oral cavity, maxillofacial area and the adjacent and associated structures. Therefore, dental auxiliaries would need to be licensed by the Medical Imaging Board to perform such duties.
